Overview

Mera Peak is one of the highest trekking peaks in the entire world which has the elevation of (6476m/21247 ft). It is considered as a challenging trekking peak for those who want to experience the non- technical trekking peaks. The trek offers a variety of landscapes through lush rhododendron forest to alpine & icy trails. As we cross the Zatrwa La Pass (4600m) while returning from Mera peak. The trek delivers a breathtaking view of mountains like Makalu, Bruntse, Lhotse, Everest, Amadablam, etc.

Arrival in Kathmandu (1350m)

Airport pick up & drop in a private jeep & transfer to the hotel.

Rest /Trek preparation day

In this day we prepare ourselves as we need proper clothing, equipment, accessories, gears etc. to climb the trekking peak. We will check if there's something missing or need to buy.

Kathmandu to Lukla (2840m) & Trek to Paiya (2730m)

The distance between Lukla to Paiya is approx. 10 Km & it will carry 25 minutes of fly & around 4 hours of trek to reach Paiya (Chutok) from Lukla. The trail is steep descent till Surkhe village & steep ascent from Surke to Paiya. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse.

Paiya to Panggom (2846m) via Khari La Pass (3145m)

The distance between Paiya to Panggom is approx. 10-12 Km & it will carry around 5 to 6 hours of trek to reach Panggom from Paiya. The trail is steep descent till Paiya Khola & steep ascent until Khari La pass (3145m). After crossing the pass, we descend gradually through dense bamboo/ rhododendron forest & village settlements with farming fields we will arrive Panggom. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse.

Panggom to Ningsow (2863m) via Panggom La pass (3174m)

The distance between Paiya to Panggom is approx. 10-11 Km & it will carry around 5 to 6 hours of trek to reach Ningsow from Panggom. The trail is gradual ascent from Panggom village to Panggom la pass. There's a scenic view we can see from the top of Panggom La & after crossing the pass we descend gradually through dense bamboo/ rhododendron forest & Peseng Kharka khola & some landslide prone sections we will arrive Ningsow village. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse.

Ningsow to Chhatra Khola (3150m)

The distance between Ningsow to Chhatra Khola (3150m) is approx. 12 to 14 Km & it will carry around 6 to 7 hours of trek to reach Chhatra Khola from Ningsow. The trail begins with smooth ascent from Ningsowe to Surke La pass entering Makalu Barun National Park. There's a scenic view we can see from the top of Surke La & after crossing the pass we descend steeply through dense bamboo forest & some landslide sections we will arrive Chhatra Khola. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse.

Chhatra Khola to Kothe (3600m)

The distance between Chhatra Khola to Kothe is approx. 13 Km & it will carry around 5 to 6 hours of trek to reach Kothe from Chhatra Khola. The trail follows a Hinku river with the uphill & downhills. There are wooden/ metal bridges over the streams & rivers, rocky riversides & dense forests. Kothe is cozy & has settlement bigger compare to other villages in the trail. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse.

Kothe to Thaknak (4350m)

The distance between Kothe to Thangnak is approx. 8 Km & walk hour wil be 5 to 6 hours including rests & lunch. The trail is easy as we walk side by river & rocks couple of hours, meet up to the big airport size plain land we reach Lungsumgba Gompa (holy spot). After ascending smooth & steadily through Lungsumgba Gompa we arrive Thangnak village. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse.

Thaknak to Khare (5000m)

The day is short but steep & rocky walk. The distance in between Thaknak to Khare is only 6 to 7 km however, it takes 4 to 4.5 hours to reach Khare because of altitude gain. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse.

Khare Acclimatization & pre climbing training

Today we climb high to the ridge above the khare, gain 300 to 400m altitude & sleep low at Khare. The purpose of the day resting & little hike is to prevent us from Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) & to be friendly with the altitude. Also, the training is another important part that should be done while climbing peaks. Familiarization to the mountain gears, terminologies, history/acknowledge of mountaineering so we do few hours of training near Khare & Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse.

Khare to Mera high Camp (5800m)

We trek to Crampon point next to Base Camp & put the crampons on boots. As the trail goes steep ascend through ice & glacier, we continue climb 4 to 5 hours crossing 5 to 6 km distance to reach High Camp. We begin to see the stunning view of mountains & glaciers along the way to High Camp. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse.

Mera High Camp (5800m) to Summit (6476m) & back to Khare (5000m)

Day 12th is the most important day for us as we see today, we are going to summit Mera peak. We wake up early morning have some quick breakfast & leave High Camp early to avoid wind & whiteout & to reach summit on sunrise time. Depending on pace, it takes 4 to 5 hours to get on top & 5 to 6 hours down to Khare via High Camp. As we get back from summit to Khare, we rest for some moment at High Camp eat lunch with hot soup & continue trek to Khare. The majestic view of mountains like Makalu, Bruntse, Lhotse, Everest, Cho yo , Amadablam etc. from the summit will probably bring tears in your eyes & make you a happy cry. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse.

Reserve Day

The Reserve Day is most prominent day among all the days. As we all know mountains is not ours, it belongs to the nature. Although there's no any conspiracy to make happen bad, we become unlucky sometimes. There are several issues which lets us wait & watch: Bad weather (Windy, heavy snowfall, whiteout etc.) Need more time to acclimatize (not every human body is same, some may need few times more to adapt the altitude)

Khare to kothe

The distance between Khare to Kothe is approx. 15 Km & walking hours will be around 6 to 7 hours including rests & lunch. The trail is all the way descending & rocky walk. Walking around the big valley & beside the river makes you joyful with the easy walk. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse

Kothe to Thulikharka (4300m)

The distance between Kothe to Thulikharka is approx. 10 Km & walking hours will be around 6 hours including rests & lunch. The trail is gradual ascent till Thakthor & continue with the steep ascending crossing dense forests & some shrubs plants/trees. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse

Thulikharka to Lukla Via Zatrawa La Pass (4600m)

The distance between Thukikharka to Lukla via Zatrawa La is approx. 14 Km & it will carry around 6 to 7 hours of trek to reach Lukla from Thulikharka. The trail follows a steep uphill & downhills of Zatrawa La with the alpine meadows. There are wooden/ metal bridges over the streams & rivers, rocky/slippery riversides & dense forests surpassing Chutanga & other beautiful villages finally we reach to Lukla. Stay overnight at lodge/guesthouse.
